About Us

Care that’s personal…

We understand that choosing a care home is one of life’s most important decisions. Our role is to offer reassurance, clarity and steady support – not just to residents, but to families as well.

Strong relationships with local health authorities, social services and support organisations allow us to respond quickly and thoughtfully, ensuring care is well-coordinated and continuously reviewed.

HomeTrust Care provides specialist residential, nursing and dementia care for older people in Cumbria. Our homes are welcoming, well-established and thoughtfully adapted to meet changing needs – always with dignity, kindness and respect at the heart of care.

We believe in listening to our residents and their families: working in partnership to create care plans that support independence, well-being and a life lived to the fullest.

Our homes combine traditional charm with modern comfort. Whether you require short-term respite, long-term residential care, or sensitive end-of-life support, our care is always personal, safe and delivered with genuine kindness from fully-trained and experienced staff.

At HomeTrust Care, we are proud to be an Employee-Owned Trust, where every member of our team shares a personal commitment to delivering exceptional care. This sense of ownership creates a culture of pride, compassion and dedication, ensuring every resident is cared for like family.

Our approach to care

We listen carefully to residents and families, working in partnership to create personalised care plans that support independence, wellbeing and quality of life at every stage.

For residents, this allows them to keep their independence of spirit. For families, our high standards of care and personal support offer them reassurance and peace of mind.

Our staff are caring, committed and specially trained in the care of the frail, the elderly, people with dementia, and those with nursing and residential needs. They reflect the core values of teamwork, commitment and humour.

We place great emphasis on professional training and supervision: the care teams in each of our homes are led by exceptional managers and supported by a team of experienced nursing, catering, domestic and ancillary staff.

We have long-standing and excellent working relationships with local health authorities, social services and support organisations. Which means we are here to assess, discuss and respond to all of your needs, and answer any questions or concerns you may have.

HomeTrust Care: care that respects a lifetime of living.

Sharing success

As an Employee-Owned Trust (EOT), our staff share in the responsibility and pride of providing exceptional care. This sense of ownership creates a culture of compassion, dedication and family-like warmth.

Employee ownership means our homes are guided by the people who work within them every day. This brings continuity, accountability and pride – and ensures decisions are driven by care, not corporate priorities.

HomeTrust Care was founded as a family-run company in 2003. In 2025, we became an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT), meaning staff collectively benefit and have a meaningful stake in the business, instead of external owners or investors.

This is unusual in the UK care sector, where many care homes are owned by private companies or large chains. In contrast, the EOT model involves:

  • stronger staff engagement and shared commitment to quality, culture and mission
  • long-term job security and continuity of care because decisions are driven by people directly involved in care rather than distant investors

The employee-ownership structure can make a real difference if what matters to you is being in an organisation where staff are valued, have a voice, and share in success.

Marching on

HomeTrust Care is delighted to have signed the Armed Forces Covenant (AFC), a national commitment to supporting members of the Armed Forces community, including veterans, reservists and their families.

It demonstrates our commitment to being an inclusive, socially responsible and values-led employer, and enables us to recognise and value the unique skills and experiences that members of the Armed Forces community bring – including discipline, leadership, adaptability and resilience, enriching both our workforce and the quality of care we deliver.

The AFC is a pledge of respect and compassion, and directly aligns with our Employee Ownership Trust (EOT) ethos, a model that puts people at the heart of our organisation.

Both the AFC and EOT reflect our values of empowerment and shared purpose, ensuring every member of staff feels respected, supported and valued.

Together, these commitments form a powerful statement about who we are: a company that genuinely values its people and prioritises their wellbeing, growth, and sense of belonging.

Questions families often ask

Choosing care brings many questions. Our FAQs address the practical and emotional concerns families most often share, helping you feel informed, reassured and supported.

What types of care do you provide?

Respite Care, Personal Care, Residential Care, Autism & Learning Disabilities Care, Physical Disability Care, Physically Frail Nursing Care, EMI (Elderly Mentally Infirm) Nursing Care, Dementia Care and End-of-Life & Palliative Care.

See Seeking Care for more details.

Residential vs nursing care – what’s the difference?

We offer pre-admission care assessment; full involvement of the resident and family in decision-making; a review of medical, emotional and social needs; liaison with GPs, social workers, hospital teams and other relevant organisations; and trial stays and respite options.

Many families reach this decision gradually, often after noticing increasing care needs, safety concerns, or growing strain on family carers.

A care home can offer consistent support, reassurance and a safer environment when care at home is no longer able to meet someone’s needs.

It can also give a sense of security and companionship to counter loss of self- confidence, loneliness and anxiety.

Each case is different, and we have full and frank discussions with residents and/or their families as to our fees, and what they cover.

This covers fixed and additional charges, funding options (eg self-funding, NHS/local authority support), notice periods and fee reviews.

The fees are assessed depending on need, and vary due to the individual support provided.

For those who fall beneath the asset threshold, the relevant local authority will carry out a financial assessment of each individual.

We work in partnership with other funders of care such as ASC (Adult Social Care) and the NHS, and follow national guidelines and those of the Care Act.
